Boiler Chemicals

Boiler chemicals include oxygen scavengers, alkalinity boosters, and antiscalants.

Adding specialty chemicals inside of a boiler significantly prolongs its lifetime and is the simplest and most cost-effective way to protect your investment in a boiler system.

Simple tests can determine if you need to treat your boiler water:

1. Test pH: Ideally, boiler water should be moderately alkaline (pH 9.0 - 9.5 for steel boilers, 8.5 - 9.0 for systems with aluminum heaters).
2. Test ORP: The oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) should be negative (-100 mV or lower), indicating a reducing environment.
3. Measure Calcium Concentration. Osorno will measure the calcium concentration needed for antiscalants, free of charge.

You should test the pH and ORP of boiler water weekly and calcium concentration quarterly, as well as when you add make-up feedwater.

Oxygen Scavengers

Oxygen scavengers remove oxygen (the number one enemy of boilers) from boilers and prevent corrosion in boilers.

Osorno’s Oxygen Scavenger comes in 4 L jugs and returnable 20 L delcans. One delcan of oxygen scavenger can treat 5,000 L of boiler water and can capture the oxygen content of 1,400 L of air. Oxygen scavengers adjust the pH of boiler water to between 8.5 and 9.0.

Boiler Antiscalants

Boiler antiscalants are widely used to reduce scale formation. Scale buildup can lead to explosive local overheating and even rupture the boiler.

Osorno technicians will measure the amount of antiscalant required for boiler systems free of charge.
