Based on requests from several of our clients, Osorno has formulated two fungicides for agricultural applications. The first fungicide we developed was a result of observations of effects of specific chemicals on wheat seeds, vine leaves, and other plants.
Lime and copper compounds have been used as fungicides in agriculture and as algaecides in pools and dugouts for more than a century. The best known copper-based fungicide is probably the “Bordeaux mixture”, usually prepared freshly by mixing dissolved copper sulfate (“bluestone”) in hydrated lime slurry. Bordeaux mixture has its drawbacks, which have led to the development of fungicides based on biocidal chemicals or microorganisms that eliminate or inhibit fungi and their spores. Osorno’s fungicides have been developed as fast acting general-purpose fungicides, with Fungicide #2 also acting as an algaecide.
Osorno’s fungicides comply with the requirements of organic agricultural production.
Osorno sells Fungicide #1 – a blend of peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide – for treating mildew. With a single application, Fungicide #1 destroyed mildew that developed on grapes shortly before harvest in a clients’ vineyard. Fungicide #1 leaves no persistent residue and is therefore safe for use up to the time of harvest.
Fungicide #1 is packaged in 1 litre or 4 litre bottles, and upon request in 20 l delcans. This fungicide is a concentrate, of which 1 l is to be diluted with 100 l water, or 1/2 gal of fungicide with 50 gal water.
Osorno sells Fungicide #2, a new fungicide and algaecide containing CuproCitrol™, a soluble copper complex which is 100% bio-available. This product effectively and safely combats fungi in agricultural applications and algae in ponds.
Osorno sells Fungicide #2 in 1 litre and 4 litre bottles, and upon request in 20 l delcans. This fungicide is a concentrate, of which 1 l is to be diluted with 100 l water, or 1/2 gal of fungicide with 50 gal water.
